Why Indigenous Languages Matter
<< Prev | Next >>
October 17, 2019

Canada currently has 60 Indigenous languages that continued to be spoken. A UNESCO reports that three-quarters of the nation’s Indigenous languages are “definitely,” “severely” or “critically” endangered. To mark the UN Year of Indigenous Languages, join us for an animated discussion on the state of Indigenous languages in Canada and why it’s in Canada’s best interest to safeguard and revitalize them. Featuring Chief Perry Bellegarde, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and Wade Davis, world-renowned anthropologist and author, the talk will be moderated by Charlene Bearhead, Indigenous education advocate and The Royal Canadian Geographical Society’s Director of Reconciliation.
