Ever wonder where people got their furniture from before IKEA? Kids can learn about the carpentry trade on Saturday, July 31 at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum during one of the site’s Back to Basics children’s workshops. Different carpentry tools will be demonstrated, and children will have the chance to see the work of a carpenter in a rural village in the 1920s and 30s. At the end of the day, children will leave with their very own handcrafted wooden object. The workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museums, located at 2940 Old Montreal Road. Ages 7 to 12. Cost is $5 per child and advance registration is required. For more information and to register call 613-833-3059 or visit Ottawa.ca/museums.
