Heart and Stroke Foundation Singing from Our Heart: For Our Heart What is this Program? A first-ever, singing-based fundraising program for the Ottawa Heart and Stroke Foundation Office. When and where is this program taking place? Sunday, November 18, 2012, 3 pm - 5:30 pm Dominion Chalmers United Church 355 Cooper Street, Ottawa The Program Purpose in Context: The goal of the vocal concert is to have the highest level of performance for a fun and inspiring experience and a full house! This unique event will celebrate the joy of singing and the link to heart health and well-being. Research from the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada supports various health benefits of singing including: • Good flow of oxygen to the cardio-vascular system and the brain • Good for clear breathing and oxygenation • Helps to lower blood pressure • Helps to strengthen the immune system • Helps to breathe more easily and avoid shortness of breath • Calms the mind and body, helps to enhance well-being Program and Singers A broad spectrum of genres will be represented: Children’s and adult choral groups, Folk, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Gilbert & Sullivan, Broadway and much more. Dr. Fraser Rubens, Cardiac Surgeon and Director, Centre for Advancement of Patient Care, Cardiac Surgery, Ottawa Heart Institute will honour us by singing for our heart. Dr. Rubens also sits as an internal research grants reviewer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
